Mission to Malawi

Since 2013, Circle J Ministries has made regular trips to Malawi—typically two to three times a year—partnering with local churches and pastors to serve rural communities around Lilongwe, Mzuzu, and Blantyre and areas that see fewer visiting teams.

Circle J organizes Christian mission trips to Malawi, connecting volunteers from the United States with pastors, churches, and communities throughout the country.

Our mission trips focus on evangelism, discipleship, and practical service, with activities planned alongside local ministry leaders who continue the work throughout the year.

Whether you have years of ministry experience or are exploring international missions for the first time, we welcome conversations with people who feel called to serve.

What Does a Mission Trip Look Like?

Evangelism & Jesus Film Outreach

Our teams visit rural villages and communities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Evening showings of the Jesus Film create opportunities for people to hear the message of Jesus in a familiar language. Local pastors coordinate follow-up ministry and help establish lasting relationships with interested individuals and families.

Church Planting & Discipleship

Working alongside Malawian pastors, our teams help strengthen existing churches, support new congregations, and participate in discipleship activities.

These efforts may include Bible studies, school Bible Clubs, teaching resources, and encouragement for local church leaders.

Community Outreach & Service

Depending on the team and the needs of local partners, mission trips may also include medical outreach, ministry with women and families, school visits, and community support projects.

Volunteers with professional skills, including medical training, may have opportunities to contribute in ways that support locally identified needs, subject to appropriate qualifications and permissions.

Pastoral Training & Encouragement

Some trips include conferences and seminars for pastors and their wives, offering opportunities for teaching, fellowship, and encouragement.

Our goal is to equip and support local leaders whose ministries continue long after visiting teams return home.

A Partnership That Continues Beyond the Trip

We believe meaningful missions should strengthen the work already being done by local churches.

Malawian pastors and ministry leaders help plan activities, coordinate community visits, and provide follow-up after our teams leave.

Our volunteers come alongside these leaders, rather than replacing them, supporting relationships and programs that continue throughout the year.

Who Can Participate?

You don't need to be a pastor or experienced missionary to express interest in serving.

Circle J provides preparation and evangelism training before trips, helping participants understand the mission, expectations, and their responsibilities.

Volunteers should be willing to participate in Christian ministry, work respectfully with local leadership, remain flexible, and adapt to international travel and rural conditions.

Participation depends on the needs of each trip, available spaces, travel requirements, and the team's ability to safely accommodate individual circumstances.

Planning for a Mission Trip

Trip dates, costs, and specific activities vary.

Before committing, prospective volunteers can contact Circle J to learn about upcoming opportunities, estimated expenses, accommodations, transportation, necessary documents, and preparation requirements.

We encourage interested participants to reach out early so they have adequate time to understand the commitment and prepare for international travel.

Can't Travel? You Can Still Participate.

There are many meaningful ways to support the work in Malawi without joining a trip.

You can pray for the teams and local ministry leaders, contribute toward ministry equipment and outreach resources, support ongoing projects such as House of Hope, or help connect Circle J with churches and individuals interested in the mission.

Every form of partnership contributes to the work being carried forward in Malawi.
